The first recorded writings (that have been found) about Atlantis were by Plato.
It comes primarily from two of his writings.

Timaeus and Critias.
Here is a full text translation of both, there are also links to a dwnloadable text document if you want to read it offline or if you have a text reader.
It is not complex, but at times can be a taxing read.
But interesting.

Hmmm
It would be interesting to get to the land mass under the poles to see what archeology was there.
I bet there would be a lot to be found if you could get at it without the associated minor details such as global warming, huge rises in sea levels, the next Ice age :)
