Parler Vous Trump?

Parler, a popular far-right social media site has been taken offline by Amazon. The giant tech company pulled the plug on Parler after carefully considering the potential liability that hosting the conservative site could represent for the company should its members use the platform for subversive acts against the U.S. Government. This action came after Google and Apple took down Parler's app from their online stores citing concerns over the preponderance of calls to violence among its users - most of whom are Trump supporters.

Parler - put forth by its founder and CEO John Matze as one of the last bastions of free speech in the world - attracted millions of right wing users after several crackdowns by the social media giants Twitter and Facebook left them de-platformed and discontent over what they consider to be a socialist-perpetrated, social media conspiracy designed to silence the not-so-silent majority of patriots who have cast their lot with the outgoing administration.

Being a non tech person,,,,I am confused on why a place like Parler needs Amazon, Twitter or Facebook....can't they have their own 'platform' and 'web' page for people to congragate on? Why can't people bring up Parler on their cellphones like the others and post away? Can't someone on the right start a right wing Facebook...surley all the 'Trumpers' would join and make it profitable.

Dr Wu,

You may find this interesting.

Thanks,,,,but I don't understand why it needs Amazon for hosting...? Instagram, Facebook, Twitter all operate one way or another on their own..don't they? I just don't understand the tech aspect. Why does any site like that need the others for people to post and make it successful?
btw..I'm not supporting Parler....just curious how these things operate.

I don't think they have the budget to have their own servers like Twitter, Facebook, or YouTube, doc. My understanding is that they are now looking for another company to host their site, but it is going to be very difficult for them cuz the big hosting companies don't want to be in business with them.

It is as cheap as chips to host a website, a very different matter to host an effective one.
Campare it to the printer situation, you can buy a printer for $35, but it comes with enough ink to print your receipt of purchase then its $3 Million dollars a refill.

Websites are the same, It costs little to host a website and own a domain name. I have had mine for years and its probly ony $200 a year, but although mine is public, it is for me and very very few others, So I have no ssues with bandwidth, google searches etc.But one you want folks to find, well then you have to cater for all the extras, bandwith, addons such as databases security updates maintenance backups, thelist is bottomless. Then getting people there. If you started up a version of Facebook because you did not like facebooks policies. Could you compete?

But if you had something not directly competetive, say a platofm for science boffins, you could sell your soul to the internet devil and ride on the back of Facebook, Amazon or whatever.

I certainly don't know all the details of AB here, But I know enough. The place is a huge investment in time, effort and $$ for Leta to keep running. If the members new the effort Leta puts in to give us our home your jaws would hit the floor.

I can only imagine what it would take to be a major player on the net.

No, I speak my mind, English, French & Spanish. I don't understand Donald Trump because he speaks gobbledegook most of the time.

Lol. I thought you were much cleverer than me. I've thought that a few times before though. :0)

My Mother-tongue is English. I learnt French at school. I never got more than 5 questions wrong in exams & I wasn't even trying & I'm really not that clever so you could learn easily. I've forgotten most of it now though. I learnt a bit of Spanish when I went on holiday to Spain.

For instance...
English: Our Father who art in heaven,
Pidgeon: Immi big fel him stop on top :)

When the Japanese places planeswould fly over my dads head the natives would yell..
Ehhh masa masa, immi baloose no belong mefella, immi baloose belong Japan.

And if you asked one of them how far a walk was, I forget the numbers exactly, but I remember the three (very understated) responses,

1. Little long way, anything up to 15 miles.
2. Long long way, 15 to 25 miles.
3. Long way too far, over 25 miles.

Remembering of course this was through the thickest jungles of New Guinea in 1942, they were comandos not tourists on a road :)

Lol, my memory is a bit shot now, But I would love to learn Russian and german only so I didnt always have to translate Rammsteins darn lyrics:)

A French speaking female sounds sexy, but a french speaking bloke...Makes me want to punch them lol.
I guess thast racist, I prefer cultural I have not had positive experiences ever with french blokes, and that is without exception.
So I think it is cultural differences, the race part is purely concidental.

Lol.

I've attempted to learn Russian. I didn't have much success. I can read Dr. Zhivago though which leaves some Russian names in just not the funny characters. I'd love to learn German. I never got the chance. Since I've been told I have to watch & listen to more high-brow entertainment like classical music, ballet & opera & learn to sing opera for work at some point & I already like some classical music & enjoy watching ballet & my ears are very sensitive so opera sounds too loud & I want to ease myself into it gently I think learning to understand spoken & sung Italian & speak & sing Italian would be a good start. :0)

Lol.

Yeah, a great bloke, If you ever come across one of a war correspondant named Osmar Whites book called "Green Armor" he talks about a group of 24 commandos (actually 27, he got that wrong) that arrived in a small field hospital after traversing the Bulldog Track, malnourished and wrecked,
My dad was one of the 27. He referrs to them several times in the first half of that book. Though you would never know it.
have a copy of the book that dad read in his later years and underlines in pencil the bits he was involved in.

The Bulldog track is furthur up the owen stanleys from Kokoda.
Dads mob was pretty much the first lot of commandos over there, I asked at the Australian war memorial why they didnt talk about dads mob whe she gave the speech about the commandos in New Guinea,
She sais that while we know they were there, they were very covert and to this day no one knows much about what they did.
Other than us family. dads mob among other things was heavily involved in the preparation and recon for tha attack on Salamoa.
Anyway, I better shut up, I am off topic. And this one is dear to me so I will never stop, :)

I will do. Thank you very much for the recommendation.

I was off-topic to start with. I just wanted to have a bit of fun with the thread title as it means "Do you speak Trump?" in English. I've got topics I can talk ages on too. :0) I'd better shut up too because I've finished littering up Leta's thread with the answer to her question "Parler Vous Trump?".

What's your answer to Leta's question? Oui ou non? Yes or no?
The ony Trump I speak would be to say goodbye as he passes into bad history in as much foul language as I could muster on the joyous event :)
