I did a bunch of calculations on this pre Covid.
I work with a South African who argued...If aliens are out there why cant we hear them.

The short version was that I scaled the known universe to a line between Melbourne and his house in Sth Africa,,
I then looked at our first ever radio signals from earth a little over 100 years ago.
They had travelled a couple of mm between here and Sth Africa in the last 100 years..

So if an alien race was trying to detect earth they would need to be pointing there antenna to us exactly from all the possible points in the universe, and be listening to a packet of radio 100 years wide out of 96 billion light years, that is a couple of mm across between here and sth Africa.,

Is there any surprise we only hear crickets?
