Russia is taking no chances with anything unidentified flying over its airspace. Earlier this week, media outlets picked up a story from Russian television claiming that a UFO was shot down deep inside the southern region of Rostov. According to the press release, a "small-size luminous object in the shape of a ball" was spotted hovering over the village of Sultan Sala, a region heavily militarized due to its proximity to contested territories.
Rather than taking the wait-and-see approach, Russian forces decided to engage the strange interloper just in case it was an enemy drone. Vasily Golubev, the governor of Rostov, urged the population to remain calm and trust the air defenses deployed all over the rural town. As far as the UFO is concerned, reports indicate the mystery ball exploded in the air shortly after being subjected to a barrage of anti-aircraft flak. It remains a mystery whether any pieces of the UFO made it to the ground.
