I was there this day in 1980, 19 years old. I got into 2 or 3 punch ups to do it but made it to the handrail dividing crowd from security. Front row, slightly right of center. Opening song was Detroit Rock City.
It cost me $400 AU to get in the mosh pit for November this year. I will be less than one month short of my 60th Birthday.
